Not really a proper adventure because we started and ended by car, but last week we visited the Nene Valley Railway and travelled on a steam-heated train: with British Railways standard MkI coaches and a standard Class 2 locomotive built the year I was born, it was a real step back in time - and with real ale on board, too.
